Game Recap: Baseball |

Lourdes Blanks Montreat for Road Win

Lourdes had a big second inning and Anderson Strunk (New Baltimore, Mich./Algonac H.S.) shut down Montreat over six innings on the hill as the Gray Wolves blanked Montreat 10-0 at Newell Field in Montreat, N.C.

"Anderson gave us six great innings," head coach Josh Bradford said after the win.  "He worked quick, threw all strikes, and we made all of the plays behind him.  Offensively, we strung together quality at bats in six of the seven innings and we gave ourselves scoring opportunities in each of those innings."

Strunk scattered just four hits in his six innings on the ill, striking out three and walking just one before Levi Hillard (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) came on to toss a scoreless seventh.

Lourdes jumped in front in the opening inning as Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) stole home as part of a double steal.  The Gray Wolves plated six runs in the second, all unearned, with two outs following a Cavalier error.  Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) doubled home two runs and Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) followed with a three-run home run as the lead increased to 7-0.

After the Gray Wolves added a run in the third, Suraganan homered in the fourth before the Gray Wolves concluded the scoring with an unearned tally in the fifth.

Suraganan went 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Haugh finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Jackson also had a two-hit, two-RBI game as Lourdes finished the day with 12 hits.

Lourdes (3-5) has Tuesday off before returning to the field on Wednesday with a trip to Campbellsville, Ky. to face Campbellsville.  First pitch at HIG Baseball Field is set for 3 p.m.
