Lourdes Plates Three in the 10th to Defeat Siena Heights

After Siena Heights scored six runs in the eighth to tie the game on Wednesday evening, Lourdes plated three of its own in the top of the 10th to defeat the Saints 13-10 at the SHU Baseball Diamond in Adrian, Mich.

"We stayed the course today," head coach Josh Bradford said afterwards.  "We got some big hits throughout the team.  That's another big conference win for the guys."

Lourdes plated four in the top of the second to take the early lead, two coming via a home run off the bat of Andrew Arntston (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.).  The Saints answered with two in the bottom of the inning and the Gray Wolves maintained the 4-2 advantage into the sixth.

Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) delivered a two-run double in the top of the sixth, only to see Siena Heights answer with one in the bottom of the frame. Each team scored in the seventh with Lourdes adding three in the top of the eighth.  Michael Strzelewicz (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary's Catholic Central H.S.), who tripled earlier in the game, led off with a home run to jumpstart the inning.

Siena Heights (8-22, 5-13 WHAC) tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, scoring six times while sending 10 batters to the plate.  Three doubles in the inning produced five of the six runs.

In the 10th, Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) put Lourdes in front for good with a three-run home run.

Wyatt Smith (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.), who came on in relief in the ninth, tossed two scoreless innings to earn the win (3-1).  Brendan Cannon (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) had three perfect innings in relief earlier in the game, striking out three from the third through the fifth innings.

Strzelewicz had three hits while Jagodzinski and Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) had two each as part of a 14-hit attack.

Lourdes (15-17, 11-8) returns home to Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Cornerstone.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
