Lourdes wrapped up the regular season portion of the schedule on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 match to Aquinas inside DeWitt Tennis Center in Holland, Mich.
"The men have struggled to regain their footing after the long break," head coach
Epifani Jones said afterwards. "However, Theo (Casadei) and Alvaro (Trillo-Sanchez) are reaping the rewards of hard work all year."
Aquinas (7-6, 3-3 WHAC) opened the match sweeping the doubles point. The Gray Wolves' team of
Ulises Barradas (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) and
Alvaro Trillo-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain/Churchill County [Nev.] H.S.) fell 6-2 at number one doubles while
Theo Casadei (Annecy Le Vieux, France/CNED) and
Ondrej Skokan (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Dasicka 1083) fell 6-1 at the second spot. At third doubles,
Luis Guzman (Santo Domingo, D.R./Cranston East [R.I.] H.S.) and
Josh Parish (Columbus, Ohio/Cristo Rey H.S.) dropped a 6-4 decision.
Casadei recorded his team-leading 13
th singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at second singles while Trillo-Sanchez added his 12
th victory of the season with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph at the sixth spot.
Skokan fell 7-6 (4), 6-1 at the top of the lineup while Barradas dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match at number three. At fourth singles, Parish fell 6-2, 6-3 while
Aryan Mittal (Ghaziabad, India/DPS Indirapuram) made his season debut for the Gray Wolves at fifth singles, falling 6-4, 6-1.
Lourdes (11-6, 1-5) will head to Lima, Ohio on Wednesday for the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament. The league will announce official pairings later this weekend.
