Lourdes was a walk-off winner 3-2 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader before Cleary took the nightcap for the second straight day, 9-4, at Mercy Field.
In the opener, Cleary plated an unearned run in the opening inning following a two-out error before Lourdes took the lead in the third with a pair of unearned runs of their own.
Michael Strezelewicz (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary's Catholic Central H.S.) delivered a two-out double to score
Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont. Holy Trinity H.S.) and
Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.).
That would be all the scoring until the seventh, as
Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) yielded just three hits in his complete game effort. He did not allow a hit from the third through sixth frames.
In the seventh, the Cougars took advantage of three walks, one intentional, tying the game on the third free pass of the inning. Lourdes responded in the bottom of the inning the same way.
Cord Noble (Rockford, Mich./Rockford H.S.) led off with a walk and
Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) sacrificed him to second. Two intentional walks, coupled with a wild pitch, loaded the bases before Haugh lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate the winning run.
Oehlers earned the win (5-3), allowing just one earned run over the seven innings while striking out three.
Cleary (27-18, 16-11 WHAC) jumped in front in game two as the first three batters of the contest all scored.
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning with his fourth home run of the season.
The Cougars increased the lead to 5-1 with single runs in the fourth and fifth before Oehlers hit a two-run blast, his first of the year, in the sixth to cut the deficit to two. Suraganan tripled home Jagodzinski in the eighth to make it a one-run game, but the Gray Wolves stranded the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, two of 13 Lourdes left on base in the game.
Cleary added four insurance runs in the ninth to close out the win.
Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) had three hits in the nightcap as Lourdes finished with 13 for the game.
Lourdes (19-22, 15-13) will close out non-conference play Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host IUPUC. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Mercy Field.
