Lourdes closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon, defeating IUPUC 13-1 in the rain at Mercy Field. Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled due to the ongoing precipitation.
The Gray Wolves took control in the opening inning, scoring seven times on just four hits. Lourdes took advantage of three walks, a hit batter, and an error in the inning.
Lourdes would score in five of its six at bats on the day, tallying multiple runs in three frames.
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) tripled home a run in the third while
Nick DiGennero (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) did the same in the fourth. Wild pitches plated runs in both the second and sixth innings.
IUPUC (3-40) scored its lone run on a two-out hit in the seventh.
Anderson Strunk (New Baltimore, Mich./Algonac H.S.) earned the win (3-5), allowing just two hits in three innings of work while facing the minimum. He induced a double play ball and picked a runner off first.
At the plate, Suraganan drove in three runs as part of a 2-for-3 day while
Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) and
Michael Strzelewicz (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary's Catholic Central H.S.) each had two hits as well.
Lourdes (20-22) will close out the regular season with a four-game series against Madonna this weekend at Mercy Field. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
