Lourdes Drops Twinbill to Open Series with Madonna

Lourdes lost both ends of its doubleheader with Madonna on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-5 and 5-3 in 10 innings at Mercy Field.

In the opener, the Crusaders jumped in front fast, scoring four runs in both the first and third innings.  Madonna added to the lead with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 12-0 advantage.

Nate Blain kept the Gray Wolves off the board through six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

Lourdes broke through against the Madonna bullpen in the seventh, scoring five times.  Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) drove home the first run before Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) delivered a bases clearing triple for his third hit of the game.  Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) followed with a RBI hit, closing out the Gray Wolf scoring.

Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) broke a scoreless tie to lead off the fourth inning of game two, hitting his fifth home run of the season.  Suraganan doubled home a run in the fifth and scored two batters later on a Haugh sacrifice fly as the Gray Wolves increased the lead to 3-0.

Madonna tied the game in the sixth with a pair of home runs and the game stayed deadlocked until the 10th.  Three straight hits by the Crusaders drove home what would be the two game-winning runs.

Jagodzinski, Haugh, and Hunter Mix (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) each had two-hit games in the nightcap.

Lourdes (20-24, 15-15 WHAC) and Madonna (28-15, 22-6) will close out the weekend series, and the regular season, on Sunday afternoon.  Game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the game.
