Lourdes rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one to defeat the University of Michigan-Dearborn 5-3 on Saturday afternoon but the Wolverines responded with a 6-4 victory in game two as the schools split their doubleheader at Mercy Field.

Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont./Holy Trinity H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard in game one, singling home a run in the bottom of the third. A throwing error allowed a second run to score in the inning as Lourdes built a 2-0 lead.

The Wolverines responded with three unearned runs, all with two outs, in the fourth inning to take the lead, an advantage the visitors would take to the bottom of the sixth.

With two outs,
Matt McEachern (Burlington, Ont./Hayden Secondary H.S.) tied the game with a single into center. After the Gray Wolves loaded the bases, with the benefit of an error and a hit batter,
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) delivered a two-run hit that proved to be the difference.

Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) earned the win (4-3), working six innings on the hill. He did not allow an earned run while scattering seven hits and striking out five.Â
Spencer Rader (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) pitched a one-two-three ninth for his first career save.

Suraganan had three of the Gray Wolves' nine hits in the opener while
Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) also had a two-hit game.

Michigan-Dearborn (3-21, 3-10 WHAC) jumped in front quickly in game two, scoring three times in the opening inning. The Gray Wolves battled back to tie the game, as
Andrew Arntson (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) tripled home a run in the second and
Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) hit a two-run home run in the third.

A two-out single by
Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) in the fifth put Lourdes in front 4-3. The Wolverines would quickly answer though, plating three runs, all with two outs, in the sixth. The Gray Wolves were not able to rally late, stranding 12 baserunners, including five in scoring position, in the nightcap.

Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) had two hits each.

Lourdes (14-15, 10-8) takes to the road on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against Mount Vernon Nazarene. First pitch in game one is set for 2 p.m. at Cougar Field in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
