Women's volleyball standout
Molly Shonk and men's lacrosse alum
Jared Yoshino will comprise the inaugural class of the Lourdes University Athletics Hall of Fame, and will be inducted on November 3, 2023, in the Franciscan Center.
Transferring to Lourdes University prior to her junior season, Shonk made an immediate impact with the Gray Wolf women's volleyball program. She earned NAIA Third Team All-American honors in both 2015 and 2016 with Lourdes in addition to becoming a two-time AVCA All-Mideast Region First Team selection. The 2015 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, Shonk earned a pair of First Team All-WHAC accolades in her time with the Gray Wolves.
Shonk led Lourdes to a pair of WHAC regular season and tournament championships, earning NAIA National Championship berths in both 2015 and 2016. She helped the 2015 squad to a school-best 32-match winning streak on the way to a school-record 33 victories overall.
In just two seasons with the Gray Wolves, Shonk amassed 748 career kills, ranking fourth on the program's all-time list while compiling 827 digs, a total that also ranks fourth in program history. Her kill totals of 391 in 2016 and 357 in 2015 rank second and fifth respectively on the program's single season charts.
Shonk also excelled in the classroom while at Lourdes, being named a CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team selection in 2016 while also earning WHAC All-Academic Team and NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors during her career with the Gray Wolves.
Upon graduation from Lourdes, Shonk continued her volleyball career playing one season of beach volleyball at Florida International University. She has since competed in multiple AVP qualifiers. She was inducted into her alma mater, Bishop Hartley High School's, Hall of Fame in February of 2023. In addition to working as a senior litigation paralegal for Cassone Law Offices, she is also the boys' volleyball head coach at Bishop Watterson High School.
Joining the Lourdes University men's lacrosse team for its inaugural season in 2014, Yoshino made his mark in the Gray Wolf record books throughout his career. As a freshman he earned MCLA All-America Third Team honors before garnering Honorable Mention accolades in 2016. As a senior after the program transitioned entirely to NAIA, he was a NAIA First Team All-America selection for the Gray Wolves. The 2014 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, Yoshino was a three-time First Team All-WHAC selection in addition to earning one Honorable Mention citation. He also was a two-time Second Team All-Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association honoree while also earning Third Team All-CCLA honors in 2015.
Yoshino led the Gray Wolves to a pair of NAIA National Invitationals in addition to a berth in the MCLA Championships during his career. His 2016 team finished the year 16-5, setting a school record for wins in a season while the 2014 team won the first 10 games in the program's history, a mark that still stands today for longest winning streak.
During his four years at Lourdes, Yoshino tallied 359 points over his four-year career, 119 more than any other Gray Wolf in program history. His 184 goals are a program record, as are his 175 assists, as he is the only player at Lourdes ever to surpass the 100-assist mark. Yoshino collected 270 ground balls as well during his career, also a program record. In addition, his 68 assists and 135 total points during the 2016 campaign are school single season records to this day.
Yoshino excelled in the classroom at Lourdes, earning CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honors in 2017. In addition, he was a two-time WHAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Upon graduation from Lourdes, Yoshino started his own painting company, Yoshino Paint Pros, in 2022. He and his wife Abby (Miller), a former Gray Wolf soccer player, have a son, Oliver.
