Lourdes began a three-match homestand inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on Wednesday evening, falling 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 to the University of Northwestern Ohio.
The Racers limited the Gray Wolves to a .052 hitting percentage and just 22 kills on the evening while outdigging Lourdes 52-37.
With the opening set tied at nine, UNOH went on a 6-1 run to take the lead and closed out the set with a 7-1 spurt, holding Lourdes to just three kills in the stanza. In set two, the Gray Wolves led 12-11 when the Racers scored the next five points to start an 8-1 run on the way to building a 2-0 lead in the match. Lourdes had 10 kills in the third but a late 6-1 run by Northwestern Ohio allowed the visitors to pull away and complete the sweep.
Kyle McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) led Lourdes with nine kills offensively while adding eight digs on the defensive end.
Mia Lopez (San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel H.S.) picked up a team-high 10 digs while
Ella Lewis (Scotts, Mich./Portage Northern H.S.) added nine more.
Logan Thomas led Northwestern Ohio (7-5, 1-1 WHAC) with nine kills while Madelyn Hampton had 11 digs.
Lourdes (0-7, 0-2) remains home on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves host Cornerstone. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
