Gray Wolves Down Cornerstone in Five

Lourdes picked up its first victory of the season on Friday evening, defeating Cornerstone 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 18-25, 15-12 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"It's great to get our first win, especially against a conference opponent," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We had to battle tonight against a quality team and kept at the little things.  That was the difference for us."

Miyana Dishroon (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 38 assists, and 16 digs while hitting .714 for the night.  Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S) added 18 kills and 11 digs.

Lourdes never led in the opening set as the Golden Eagles took a quick 8-3 lead and did not look back.  In set two, a 5-1 run in the middle of the set put Lourdes in front 13-11.  Cornerstone rebounded to take a 20-19 lead before Macey Zinser (Bucyrus, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) served out the set, ending with back-to-back aces.

In the third, Lourdes hit .280 and took a quick 13-5 lead, holding off a late rally from Cornerstone to take a 2-1 lead in the match.  The Golden Eagles hit .316 in the fourth to force the deciding set.

The fifth set saw Cornerstone (6-6, 1-1 WHAC) jump in front 6-3 before Lourdes pulled even at eight.  Trailing 11-9, the Gray Wolves scored the next four points to jump in front and closed the match with an ace from Arleena Willer (Perrysburg, Ohio/Toledo Christian H.S.).

Zinser added 13 kills and had four aces as did Willer, who picked up 16 digs as well.

Hannah Giere led Cornerstone with 14 kills and hit .300.

Lourdes (1-7, 1-2) wraps up its three-match homestand on Saturday afternoon, hosting Aquinas.  First serve is set for 2 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
