Lourdes concluded the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 match against Michigan-Dearborn inside UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
"We competed well at times offensively, but we couldn't slow down their offense," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We will need to do better on the defensive side to be able to secure our next win."
The Wolverines hit .394 at home with 49 kills over the three sets, led by Kielee Tondryk who put down 13 kills and hit .542 for the contest.
Lourdes led 18-13 in the opening set before Michigan-Dearborn (9-9, 5-4 WHAC) finished the stanza on a 12-3 run to take the early lead in the match. In set two, the Wolverines hit .562 with 19 kills and just one miscue. Tied at seven in the third, the hosts went on a 12-2 run to pull away and complete the sweep.
Ella Lewis (Scotts, Mich./Portage Northern H.S.) led Lourdes with nine kills and hit .231.
Emma Coffey (Monee, Ill./Peotone H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 15 digs defensively.
Lourdes (2-13, 2-8) has a week and a half off before returning to the court on Oct. 11 when the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.). The first serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
