Cleary rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Lourdes 74-70 on Wednesday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Nadeen Jemaa (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) drained seven three-point field goals on her way to a career-high 21 points for the Gray Wolves in just 23 minutes of action, leading four Lourdes players in double figures.
Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points, all in the first half, and nine boards.
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) and
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
Lourdes started quickly, scoring 14 of the game's first 16 points in the first five minutes to build a double-digit lead. The Gray Wolves led 24-12 after the opening period. The lead grew to 14, 30-16, midway through the second quarter before Cleary went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to pull within six. Lourdes pushed the lead back to nine, 38-29, at the break though.
Cleary went on a 10-2 early in the third period to cut the Lourdes lead to one, 42-41, and took its first lead of the game, 49-44, as part of an 8-0 spurt late in the stanza. The Cougars pushed their lead to as many as 11, 60-49, with 6:45 to play in the fourth. Jemaa tried to rally the Gray Wolves late, making three triples in the final 1:45 to pull within three, 73-70, but a late free throw sealed the game for Cleary.
Lourdes held a 46-35 advantage on the glass, including a 23-7 edge on the offensive end, leading to 25 second chance points.
Amy Jackson led Cleary (2-13, 2-7 WHAC) with 26 points while Mileisha Rodriguez tallied a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Taedom Stin had 12 points and nine assists for the Cougars.
Lourdes (5-9, 3-6) takes to the road on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves head to Rochester Hills, Mich. to battle Rochester. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside Garth Pleasant Arena.
