Final Results
Lourdes picked up eight bonus point victories on Thursday evening as the Gray Wolves improved to 4-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action, defeating Cleary 46-6 at Parker Middle School in Howell, Mich.
"This was a great effort tonight," head coach
Dock Kelly III said afterwards. "I'm so proud of the way that we competed. We are in the final stretch of the season, and it's all coming together just as we envisioned. We are going to enjoy this victory tonight and then we will begin our preparations for Indiana Tech next week."
When the wrestling began,
Dru Wilson (Warren, Mich./Wood-Tower H.S.) posted a 16-6 major decision at 141 pounds for the Gray Wolves. The Gray Wolves then followed with four straight falls to close out the match.
Cyle Wells (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh H.S.) needed just 1:16 for his second pin of the season at 149 pounds while
Derick Coleman (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde H.S.) returned to the mat after missing the last few contests. Ranked 19
th in this week's NAIA coaches' poll at 165 pounds, he pinned his opponent in just 40 seconds for his 10
th victory of the year.
Niko Christo (Galion, Ohio/Northmor H.S.) followed with a fall in 59 seconds at 174 pounds, his eighth pin of the year.
Will Speight (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford H.S.), ranked fourth nationally at 184 pounds, closed out the wrestling, needing just 28 seconds for his fall while improving to 18-1 on the season.
Alex Slattman (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon H.S.) was credited with a forfeit victory at 125 pounds while
Drew Torres (Phoenix, Ariz./Tempe Union H.S.) and
Carter Kroll (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) did the same at 157 and 197 pounds respectively. Cleary's (0-6, 0-6 WHAC) lone points came via forfeit at 285 pounds.
Lourdes (6-3, 4-1) will close out the dual meet schedule on Friday, Feb. 2, as the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
