Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced Attack Leads No. 10 Lourdes to Seventh Straight Win

Lourdes had five players finish in double figures on Saturday afternoon as the 10th-ranked Gray Wolves won their seventh consecutive game, defeating Aquinas 96-76 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"I thought we did a better job of coming out focused today," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We played pretty good as a team.  We shot the ball well, passed the ball well, and rebounded well.  We got balanced scoring which is always a plus."

Lourdes started the game hot from the field, making nine of its first 10 shot attempts while building a quick 22-12 lead less than six minutes into the game.  Aquinas would respond though, scoring eight of the next 10 points to pull within four, only to see the Gray Wolves score eight straight of their own to push the lead back to double figures.  Lourdes would not allow the Saints any closer than 10 during the final 32 minutes of action.

The Gray Wolves carried a 46-32 lead into the locker room and slowly increased it in the second half before a 13-4 run pushed the advantage to as many as 27, 82-55.  Lourdes shot better than 50% from the floor in both stanzas, finishing the game at a 57.6% clip, including 8-of-16 (50%) from three-point range.

Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales H.S.) led Lourdes with 20 points while Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) and Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) each added 16 more.  Shaunn Monroe (Charleston, W. Va./Fairborn [Ohio] H.S.) chipped in 15 points to keep his streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season alive.  Kendall Perkins (Plymouth, Mich./Canton H.S.) added 10 points off the bench, his first double figure scoring game as a Gray Wolf.

Lourdes outrebounded Aquinas 39-20, including an 11-2 edge on the offensive glass which led to an 18-3 advantage in second chance points.

Donovan Brown-Boyd led Aquinas (10-10, 7-7 WHAC) with 16 points while Andrew Larson added 13 more.

Lourdes (17-1, 13-1) hits the road on Wednesday night with the short trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside of Cardinal Fieldhouse.
