Lourdes Leads Wire-to-Wire in Victory over Lawrence Tech

Lourdes scored the first five points on Wednesday evening and never trailed as the Gray Wolves defeated Lawrence Tech 65-62 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"I thought we did a nice job of executing our game plan tonight," head coach Tandy Bradford said afterwards.

The Gray Wolves started fast, building a 15-2 lead less than six minutes into the contest.  Lawrence Tech responded, closing the period on a 13-2 run of its own to pull within two after the opening 10 minutes.

Lourdes went on another run in the second period, this time an 11-1 spurt, pushing the lead to as many as 15, 33-18, before taking a 37-26 lead into the locker room.

The Gray Wolves maintained a 14-point edge midway through the third quarter before eight straight points by the Blue Devils cut the lead to six late in the stanza.  Lourdes pushed the lead back to 11, 61-50, with just over five minutes to play before the visitors made a late run.  A 12-2 run pulled Lawrence Tech to within one, 63-62, with 37.6 seconds remaining before Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) hit a keep jumper with 10.2 ticks left on the clock.  The Blue Devils had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but the three-point attempt missed the mark.

"We still need to find that killer instinct defensively," Bradford added.  "We know we can score points, but we need to be able to get stops when we go through dry spells."

Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 22 points, including four three-pointers, while Emma Pedroza added 14 more.  Halle Barnett (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) contributed a double-double with 10 points while grabbing 15 rebounds, including six offensive boards.

"It was good to see Halle contribute with the size of the posts that they have," Bradford said.  "That's what we need from her."

Maggie Long led Lawrence Tech (5-9, 3-5 WHAC) with 12 points while Dominique Evans added 11 more.

Lourdes (5-7, 3-4) looks for its third straight regular season victory in a row on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves continue their homestand hosting Madonna.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
