Lourdes continued its three-game homestand on Friday evening, dropping a 79-62 decision to Madonna inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The opening 10 minutes were back-and-forth, with three ties and 11 lead changes. Neither side led by more than two points in the first quarter with Madonna taking a slim 16-15 edge at the period's end.
The lead continued to flip-flop early in the second before a 6-0 run by the Gray Wolves gave Lourdes a 25-20 advantage at the 6:28 mark following a
Nadeen Jemaa (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) three-pointer. The Gray Wolves maintained a one-point edge, 29-28, when Madonna closed the half on a 10-2 run over the final four minutes to take a 38-31 lead into the locker room.
Lourdes played even with the Crusaders in the third, closing to within three early in the period before Madonna pushed the lead out to 11 late. Lourdes scored six of the final eight points of the quarter though to pull back within seven, 55-48 heading into the fourth.
Madonna (7-6, 4-4 WHAC) extended its advantage back out to 12 before Lourdes battled back to 64-56 at the 4:54 mark on a
Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) lay-in. Madonna would score the next 10 points though over a three-minute span to pull away and secure the win.
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 16 points while Stringfellow and
Halle Barnett (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) tallied 10 points each.
Aaliyah McQueen led all scorers for Madonna with 32 points while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. LaZae Mosely added 17 points for the Crusaders.
Lourdes (5-8, 3-5) closes out its three-game homestand on Wednesday evening (Jan. 10) as the Gray Wolves host Cleary. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
