SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University men's soccer team secured the 2-1 victory over Cornerstone University in a Saturday home match, Oct. 5 at Wildcat Stadium. The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win improves the Gray Wolves' league record to 3-1-1, good for fourth in the WHAC standings.Â
The scoring started early as junior transfer
Breno Quieroz found the back of the net in the eighth minute of play, with help from the boot of senior
Nawfal Hassani to put the host Gray Wolves up 1-0 in the first half. Then, with about 10 minutes left in the first, the visiting Golden Eagles drew a foul in the box, earning a penalty kick that saw the score even at 1-1. Junior transfer
Bruno Duarte answered with a strike in the 43rd minute of the first half to take back the advantage with help from junior
Zack-Meunier Gorman.Â
The final 45 minutes of play was a rigorous defensive battle as neither team scored, earning the Gray Wolves a 2-1 home celebration.Â

- In goal for the fifth time this season was senior Yianni Kanellopoulos, who earned his second win of the season with one save and one goal allowed.Â
- The victory improves the Gray Wolves overall record to 4-5-2 and mark's as the third conference win.Â
- Quieroz's goal in the first eight minutes of play marks as his third as a Gray Wolf.Â
- Duarte's strike mark's as the junior's fifth. His five goals stand as the team's best, thus far.Â
- With the two goals scored in the win, the team has earned multiple goals in a single match four times this season.Â
