SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University women's basketball team began Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on a high note, defeating Madonna University 86-70 on Wednesday evening at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Gray Wolves (5-1, 1-0 WHAC) showcased a balanced offensive effort, with three players scoring at least 17 points and a dominant team performance on the boards. Additionally, the team remains undefeated on their home court improving to a 4-0 home record.
Lourdes jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Crusaders 24-16 in the first quarter. Madonna kept the game close in the second, but the Gray Wolves maintained a 40-33 advantage at halftime. Lourdes pulled away in the third quarter, extending their lead to 67-55 behind a 27-point outburst, and sealed the win with a strong fourth-quarter effort.
Macie Stringfellow recorded her second double-double of the year, leading all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting while pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. She was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all six attempts, and added six assists to round out her performance.
Emma Pedroza contributed a strong effort with 17 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Nadeen Jemaa matched Pedroza's 17 points, connecting on four three-pointers while grabbing six boards.
Off the bench, Camryn Ivy provided an efficient 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting, including 4-of-7 from the free-throw line. She also added four rebounds. Tamyah Worthy chipped in nine points in just 16 minutes, rounding out a balanced offensive attack.
The Gray Wolves shot 47.7% (31-of-65) from the floor, including 37.5% (6-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 72% (18-of-25) from the free-throw line. Lourdes dominated the boards, outrebounding Madonna 39-28, and controlled the game in the paint, where they outscored the Crusaders 42-26.
Defensively, Lourdes forced nine steals and limited Madonna's second-chance opportunities, conceding just six offensive rebounds.
