Men’s Basketball Wins Big Over Defiance, 75-55

Shaunn Monroe scores 26 points as Gray Wolves remain undefeated in WHAC play

DEFIANCE, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University men's basketball team extended their perfect start to the season, improving to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with a dominant 75-55 victory over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon at the Karl H. Weaner Center.

The Gray Wolves were in control from start to finish, using a strong second half to pull away from the Yellow Jackets. Lourdes led by 11 at halftime, 31-20, before outscoring Defiance 44-35 in the second half to secure the 20-point win.

Shaunn Monroe led the way for Lourdes, scoring a team-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. He also added four rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes of action. Derrell Jones contributed 15 points, making 9-of-12 from the free-throw line, and added nine rebounds.

Dasan Doucet provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 12 points, including a three-pointer, and grabbed eight rebounds. Adonus Abrams chipped in seven points, and Kendall Perkins scored six points while contributing three assists. Lourdes shot 42.6% (26-of-61) from the field, including 23.5% (4-of-17) from long range, and 65.5% (19-of-29) from the free-throw line.

Defensively, Lourdes dominated the paint, outscoring Defiance 32-18 in that area. The Gray Wolves also capitalized on Defiance's mistakes, scoring 19 points off turnovers, while holding a 45-32 advantage on the boards.

The Yellow Jackets were led by a 14-point effort from their leading scorer, but they struggled from the field, shooting just 35.3% (18-of-51) overall and 25.0% (4-of-16) from three-point range.

The men's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 26, as the team makes its way to Rochester Christian University for a 7:30 pm meeting with the Warriors in Rochester Hills, Mich., following the conclusion of the women's game set to start at 5:30 pm.
