Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Aquinas at Home, 73-71

Devyn Jones scores 21 as Monroe adds 16

SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University men's basketball team secured a 73-71 victory over Aquinas College on Saturday, December 7th, at home in Sylvania, Ohio. The Gray Wolves led by as many as 14 points in the first half, and despite a strong second-half comeback from the Saints, Lourdes held on for the win to improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Lourdes shot 45.6% from the field (26-of-57), including 44% from beyond the arc (11-of-25), while hitting 10-of-14 free throws (71.4%). The Gray Wolves out-rebounded the Saints 36-29, with seven offensive boards leading to second-chance points. Lourdes controlled the paint, outscoring Aquinas 20-16 in that area and adding 8 points off turnovers. Despite a cold shooting stretch in the second half (34.5% from the field), the Gray Wolves maintained a lead throughout much of the game.

Shaunn Monroe continued his stellar season with 16 points, contributing five assists and six rebounds in 34 minutes. Monroe hit 6-of-14 field goals, including 3-of-5 from deep, and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Devyn Jones added a game-high 21 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three, and 5-of-6 from the line. Jones also grabbed seven rebounds and provided two assists in the win.

Prakash Ketterhagen finished with three points and seven rebounds, while Kendall Perkins chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. Caden Kruse, coming off the bench, contributed 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from deep. Paxton Payne added three points, two rebounds, and one assist.

Lourdes started hot, shooting 57.1% in the first half, including 63.6% from beyond the arc, to take a 46-28 lead into the break. Aquinas made a run in the second half, narrowing the deficit with a 43-point performance, but the Gray Wolves managed to stave off the Saints' attempts at a comeback. Lourdes' 12 second-chance points helped maintain their edge, while 8 points off turnovers also contributed to the victory.
