Lourdes celebrated Senior Night in style on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves notched their 20
th victory of the season with an 87-70 triumph over Rochester (Mich.) inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
This marks the fifth 20-win season in program history and fourth under head coach
Dennis Hopson, whose squad snapped a four-game losing streak in the process.
"It feels good to get the win and that monkey off our back," Hopson said afterwards. It was great for the seniors tonight. I thought in the second half our ball movement was really good, and we played as a team."
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) led the way with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and handing out five assists while
Shaunn Monroe (Charleston, W. Va./Fairborn [Ohio] H.S.) added 18 points.
Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales H.S.) chipped in 15 points while
Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) tallied 13 points as four Gray Wolves finished in double figures.
Lourdes shot 58.7% from the field, including 63.6% in the second half, and went 8-of-17 (47.1%) from three-point range.
Rochester (17-10, 12-9 WHAC) built an eight-point lead, 25-17, with just over eight minutes to play in the first half before the Gray Wolves went on a 12-5 run to pull within one. Lourdes took the lead with a Harris triple with just over a minute to play in the opening stanza, holding a 38-35 advantage at the break.
Lourdes slowly began adding to its advantage early in the second half have before exploding with an 11-0 run in just over two minutes to push the lead to 20, 72-52. The Warriors would cut their deficit to 12 with six minutes remaining but would not get any closer.
Gunner Walters led Rochester with 19 points while Brody Parker added 18 points off the bench.
Lourdes (20-5, 16-5) will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon, heading to Lansing, Mich. to battle Cleary. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside Gannon Gymnasium.
