Lourdes wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cleary 65-52 inside of Gannon Gymnasium in Lansing, Mich. for the Gray Wolves' school-record 12
th victory of the season.
The Gray Wolves head into the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament having won five of their last six games overall. The 12 wins surpass the previous school mark of 11 set in 2018-2019 and matched in 2019-2020.
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S) had a game-high 20 points for the Gray Wolves in just 24 minutes of action while adding four assists and five steals.
Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) added her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
An 11-0 run by Lourdes in just four minutes midway through the opening period allowed the Gray Wolves to build an early 15-5 lead and the Gray Wolves never looked back. The spurt continued into a 20-2 run allowing Lourdes to take a 24-9 lead after 10 minutes.
The Gray Wolves extended their advantage in the second quarter, pushing the lead to as many as 19 before halftime while taking a 34-16 lead into the break.
After the Cougars made the first three-pointer in the third, Lourdes scored the next 10 points to start a 17-2 run, increasing the advantage to as many as 30, 51-21, with four minutes left in the stanza. The Gray Wolves took a 25-point lead into the fourth before Cleary started the half on a 14-0 run to close within 11, 55-44, with just over five minutes to play. That was as close as Lourdes would allow the hosts to get down the stretch though, securing the win.
Nadeen Jemaa (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) added nine points and six rebounds while
Halle Barnett (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting and handed out four assists while blocking three shots.
Lourdes held Cleary to just 26.7% shooting for the game and forced 23 turnovers.
Mileisha Rodriguez led Cleary (6-22, 6-16 WHAC) with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Taedom Stein added 11 points.
Lourdes (12-15, 10-12) finished WHAC play in sixth place, its highest results in program history. The Gray Wolves will head to the WHAC tournament next Wednesday, Feb. 28, with official pairings being released by the league office later this weekend.
