No. 13 Lourdes Takes Sole Possession of First Place with Win over No. 15 Indiana Tech

No. 13 Lourdes registered its eighth consecutive victory on Tuesday evening to move into sole possession of first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 victory over No. 15 Indiana Tech inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"This was a huge win for us to be able to persevere after dropping the second set," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We played really well to start the match and really well to finish it.  We need to maintain that level of execution throughout the entire match."

Eduardo Ayala (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) put down a match-high 24 kills while hitting .345 and added 10 digs while Vinicius Lopes (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Osvaldo Carvalho) added 14 kills and 13 digs.  Joey Bianco (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder H.S.) also notched a double-double with 52 assists and 10 digs while leading an offense that hit .279.

A 6-1 run midway through the opening set allowed Lourdes to jump in front and the Gray Wolves extended the lead to 24-13 before the Warriors scored five straight points.  Lourdes finally closed out the opening stanza hitting .500 with 17 kills and just two miscues.

The second set saw Indiana Tech commit just one attack error while Lourdes made 11 of their own.  The Warriors maintained a 3–4-point lead most of the stanza on the way to evening the match.

Lourdes scored the first five points in the third and never looked back, limiting the Warriors to a .000 hitting mark with just eight kills.  In the fourth, Lourdes hit .405 to Indiana Tech's .364 but Lourdes built a three-point lead midway through, and the two teams exchanged side outs the rest of the way.

Sawyer Schafer (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) and Brayden Moyars (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) both picked up 10 digs as well in the match while Reshawn Allen (Montgomery, Ill./Oswego H.S.) registered four blocks.

Daynte Stewart led Indiana Tech (16-3, 7-2 WHAC) with 14 kills while Ben Rosenow added 11 more.

Lourdes (9-7, 9-1) hits the road for a pair of matches at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods this weekend beginning on Friday night.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Hamilton Arena.
