Lourdes needed just over an hour on Friday evening to sweep Aquinas 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"For us to hit .421 for the match and hold them under .100 is a quality team performance," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards.
The 13
th-ranked Gray Wolves limited Aquinas to just four kills and a -.045 hitting percentage in the opening set to build an early lead in the match. The Gray Wolves hit .682 in the second with 17 kills and pulled away late with a 12-4 run to close the stanza. In the third, Lourdes closed the match on an 11-4 run to complete the sweep.
Eduardo Ayala (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) led the way offensively hitting a school single-match record .760 with 20 kills on just 25 swings.
Reshawn Allen (Montgomery, Ill./Oswego H.S.) added 11 kills and swung at a .643 clip while
Joey Bianco (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder H.S.) ran the offense that hit .421 as a team for the night, dishing out 34 assists.
Defensively,
Brayden Moyars (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) picked up 13 digs.
Connor Staats led Aquinas (3-17, 1-12 WHAC) with eight kills.
Lourdes (13-7, 13-0) will continue its homestand on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech. The opening serve is set for noon inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
