Lourdes returned to the road on Saturday afternoon, dropping both games of a twinbill to Cleary 7-2 and 7-3 at Lake Trust Stadium in Howell, Mich.
Cleary jumped in front quickly in the opener, scoring in each of the first three innings on the way to building a 5-0 lead. Lourdes plated its first run in the top of the fourth as
Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) scored on an error.
The Cougars added single runs in the fourth and fifth before Lourdes added its final run in the seventh as
Caleb Edwards-Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) scored on a ground out off the bat of
Jase Kennedy (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.).
Lourdes managed just five hits in the opener.
In game two, Cleary (7-16, 5-7 WHAC) again took the early lead with a pair of first inning runs. The Gray Wolves took the lead in the third as Edwards-Dugan doubled home a pair of runs and scored one batter later on an error.
The lead would be short-lived though, as Cleary regained the lead for good in the bottom of the frame before adding a single run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ohio/South H.S.) accounted for two of Lourdes' five hits in game two.
Lourdes (6-18, 5-7) will return to Mercy Field on Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Mount Vernon Nazarene in non-conference action. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
