Oakland City Silences Lourdes Bats

Oakland City limited Lourdes to just three hits over two games on Wednesday as the Mighty Oaks swept a doubleheader from the Gray Wolves 12-2 and 3-0 at Pinnick Field in Oakland City, Ind.
 
The Mighty Oaks scored three in the first and two in the third in game one to jump out to an early lead.  After a single run in the fourth made it 6-0, Lourdes broke through on the scoreboard as Gavin McCool (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) hit a two-run home run for the Gray Wolves' lone offense.
 
Oakland City responded with another run in the bottom of the fifth and added five more in the sixth to close out the scoring.
 
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) had the only other Gray Wolf hit in the opener as six Mighty Oak hurlers combined to strike out 10.
 
In game two, A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) had Lourdes lone hit, a double to lead off the fourth but was stranded at third.
 
Oakland City (17-6) plated two in the fourth and another run in the sixth in the shutout.  Their six hurlers combined for 15 strikeouts in the nightcap.
 
Brenden Holland (Riga, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) started and worked five innings, allowing two runs and six this while fanning seven.
 
Lourdes (0-6) has moved up the beginning of its weekend series and will now travel to McKenzie, Tenn. on Thursday for a doubleheader against Bethel (Tenn.).  First pitch in game one of the twinbill iss set for 2 p.m. EST at Wildcat Park.
