Lourdes began its final homestand of the season on Saturday, dropping a pair of games to Lawrence Tech 9-1 and 7-5 at Mercy Field.
The Blue Devils took the lead with a solo home run in the second before plating two runs in both the third and fourth innings. A four-run fifth inning broke the game open, giving Lawrence Tech a 9-0 lead.
Lourdes scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as
Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) led off the inning by being hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a throwing error on an attempted double play ball.
The Gray Wolves managed just four hits in game one.
In game two, Lourdes struck first as
Caleb Edwards-Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) singled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Gray Wolves maintained the lead into the seventh when Lawrence Tech tied the game before taking a 4-2 lead with two more runs in the eighth.
A pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom of the eighth, one by
Christian Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) and the other by
A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) pulled the Gray Wolves even.
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) then delivered a run-scoring triple with two outs to give Lourdes a 5-4 lead heading to the ninth.
The first five Blue Devils would reach base in the ninth as Lawrence Tech rallied with three runs to pull out the win.
Edwards-Dugan and
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) each had two hits for the Gray Wolves in the nightcap.
Lourdes (9-29, 8-18 WHAC) and Lawrence Tech (24-14, 16-7) will wrap up their four-game weekend series on Sunday with another doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to game one.
