Lourdes wrapped up the 2024 regular season on Sunday afternoon, completing a weekend sweep of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, defeating the Wolverines 9-1 and 15-5 at West Bloomfield High School in West Bloomfield, Mich.
Â
With the victories, the Gray Wolves have extended their winning streak to six consecutive games.
Â
In the opener,
Wyatt Smith (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win, scattering just four hits while striking out one.
Â
The offense exploded early for Smith as
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) and
Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) both hit two-run home runs in the opening inning.Â
Andrew Arntson (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) added to the lead with an RBI single in the third before
Caleb Edwards-Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) delivered a run-scoring hit in the fourth to make it 6-0 Gray Wolves.
Â
Doubles by
Gray Harmer (Delta, B.C./St. Thomas More Collegiate H.S.) and
A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) each scored runs in the fifth before
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) closed out the scoring in the sixth with a solo home run.
Â
Michigan-Dearborn scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Brinson, Suraganan, and
Christian Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) each banged out three hits in the opener as the Gray Wolves registered an 18-hit attack.
Â
The Gray Wolves scored early and often in game two as well. Suraganan opened the scoring with an RBI hit in the first before DiGennaro hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0 Lourdes. After Michigan-Dearborn (4-40, 2-30 WHAC) scored two in the bottom of the first, the Gray Wolves added four more in the second.Â
Skylar Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) and Brinson had RBI doubles while Edwards-Dugan singled home the sixth run. A groundout plated run number seven.
Â
Michigan-Dearborn responded with a single run in the second before Lourdes plated three more in the top of the third.Â
Skylar Mays had a RBI hit before a wild pitch and sacrifice fly made it 10-3 Gray Wolves.
Â
Arntson added to the lead in the fourth with a three-run home run while
Christian Mays singled in Lourdes final two runs in the sixth inning.
Â
The Wolverines score a run in the fifth and added one more in the seventh, but couldn't cut the deficit under 10, as the game ended due to the run rule.
Â
Bryn Biemiller (Newmarket, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary H.S.) earned the win on the hill, tossing three innings of relief, allowing one run on five hits.
Â
Brinson went 4-for-5 in the nightcap as Lourdes banged out 14 more hits.
Â
Lourdes (15-29, 14-18) moved into a tie for the eighth and final qualifying spot for next week's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The league will announce the official pairings following the conclusion of regular season play.
