Lourdes began its four-game weekend series against the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of the twinbill 4-3 and 9-2 at Racer Field in Lima, Ohio.
The Gray Wolves started fast in the opener, scoring three times in the first inning.
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk and
Christian Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) followed with a two-run single.
The Racers tied the game with three runs in the third and the game remained deadlocked until the seventh. With two outs, the winning run crossed the plate for Northwestern Ohio on a wild pitch.
Lourdes managed just three hits in the opener while
Brenden Holland (Riga, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) went the distance on the hill, scattering just four hits as well.
In game two, the hosts took the lead in the opening inning before the Gray Wolves managed a pair of runs in the second to pull in front.
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) doubled home the tying run before
Nick DiGennero (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) lifted a sacrifice fly to center to put Lourdes in front 2-1.
The lead was short-lived, as Northwestern Ohio (22-7, 13-0 WHAC) retook the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three times before adding another run in the fourth. The Racers tacked on four insurance runs in the eighth.
A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) tallied the only multi-hit game of the day for the Gray Wolves with two hits in the nightcap.
Lourdes (6-22, 5-11) will wrap up its series with the Racers on Sunday afternoon with another doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
