For the second straight day Lourdes suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the University of Northwestern Ohio, falling to the Racers 9-1 and 12-4 at Racer Field in Lima, Ohio.
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.) put Lourdes in front in the second inning of game one, leading off the frame with a solo home run, his second of the season.
The Racers took control in the third, scoring six times, four of which were unearned, as the hosts sent 11 batters to the plate. Northwestern Ohio would tack on three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the win.
Caleb Edwards-Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) had two of the Gray Wolves' five hits in the opener to lead the way offensively.
In game two, Northwestern Ohio (24-7, 15-0 WHAC) built a 3-0 lead through three innings before the Gray Wolves tied the contest in the fourth.
Christian Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) delivered an RBI base hit before
Andrew Arnston (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) followed with a two-run single.
The Racers retook the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth. Northwestern Ohio then broke the game open with six runs in the seventh before
Jase Kennedy (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) hit a solo homer, his third of the year, in the eighth to wrap up the scoring.
Lourdes managed 10 hits in the nightcap with
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), Edwards-Dugan, Kennedy, and Arnston all tallying two each.
Lourdes (6-24, 5-13) will return to Mercy Field next Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights. The first pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
