Maddie White's Double-Double Leads Lourdes Over Rochester Christian; 3-2

White's 14 kills and 20 digs aided the team in their first WHAC victory of the season

SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's volleyball team enjoyed a five-set victory over visiting Rochester Christian University Friday night inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreational Center. The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match victory was the first of the season for the Gray Wolves.

The first two sets saw Lourdes take an early 2-0 lead over RCU, winning both sets by scores of 26-24. Needing a third set victory to continue, Rochester Christian forced the fourth, with a 25-22 third set win.

From there, a deciding set was necessary as Rochester Christian topped the Gray Wolves in the fourth, 25-23. Coming out strong in the fifth was the Gray Wolves, who started on a 4-0 rally to start the fifth and final set. Lourdes reached 15 before Rochester Christian could get to eight, taking the ultimate 3-2 match win. 

The Gray Wolves were led in tonight's match by senior Maddie White, who recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 20 digs. Her 14 kills came on 42 attempts, good for .119 hitting clip. 

Rookie setter, Rania Pavlidi dished out a career-high 39 assists, while producing three kills on five swings for an impressive .600 hitting clip on the day. Additionally, the freshman led in service aces with three. 

Lourdes' backline was led by White's 20 digs, as well as 13 from junior Emma Coffey. 

As a team, Lourdes produced a season-high 64 kills on 157 swings, good for a .185 hitting percentage.

MATCH NOTES

  • The win marked the first five-set victory for the Gray Wolves since the 2023 campaign, when Lourdes defeated Cornerstone University at home, Sept. 15, almost a year to the date. 
  • In a match series that dates back to 2010, the Gray Wolves hold a strong 15-4 all-time record against the Warriors, playing to five-sets in just five of those matches. Among the five five-setters, tonight's victory marked just the second over Rochester Christian.

The women's volleyball team hits the road for a three-match stretch starting with Aquinas College, Sept. 18. First serve is set for 7 pm in Grand Rapids, Mich.
