Quieroz; Coronel Score in 2-0 Triumph at Grace Saturday Night

The victory was the first of the season

WINONA LAKE, Ind. (LourdesAthletics.com) – Junior Breno Quieroz and senior Martin Coronel aided the Lourdes University men's soccer team to its first season victory, scoring a goal each in the 2-0 road win at Grace College (Ind.) Saturday night.

"Really good team win," said head coach Matt Johnson. "Grace is a good side, they had us on our heels a bit in the first 15-20 mins and I thought the goal came against the run of play. We made a couple of tactical adjustments to help deal with their width, and I thought that settled us a bit and we got much more into the game from then on," he said.

"More than anything though I have to credit the effort from the group. We fought for each other and it was great to see the boys get rewarded for that. Short time to enjoy it with our WHAC season coming up. We need to quickly turn around and prepare for Rochester on Wednesday," he finished.

Quieroz netted the game-winning goal less than seven minutes into the first half with help from the boot of redshirt senior Federico Reali

The second half saw Coronel secure the win with an assisted strike in the near 75th minute to put the Gray Wolves up 2-0 over Grace.

Senior goalkeeper Yianni Kanellopoulos made his third start of the season, earning a career high seven saves allowing zerio goals.

Match Notes:

  • The Gray Wolves earned their first win of the season, and the first road win since the 2023 campaign, when Lourdes topped the Saints of Siena Heights University, Oct. 21, in Adrian, Mich.
  • Quieroz netted his first career goal with the Gray Wolves, while Coronel scored his seventh.

Up Next:

Lourdes will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 18 as the team opens the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference schedule with Rochester Christian University at Wildcat Stadium.
