LIMA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- In a hard-fought battle, the Lourdes University men's soccer team competed to a 0-0 draw against the University of Northwestern Ohio host Racers Saturday evening in Lima, Ohio.
"UNOH is a well coached team that will work their socks off and be very difficult to play against," said head coach
Matt Johnson. "I felt we struggled to find rhythm and control the ball, a lot due to the level of pressure Northwestern Ohio was able to apply; they had us uncomfortable throughout".
"That said, we did a great job of fighting for each other, and we had some really good scoring chances where we couldn't quite put the finishing touch on," coach continued.
The battle of the keepers saw senior
Alex Brock post a clean sheet facing six shots on frame, while the opposing Racers earned four of Lourdes' four shots on target.
"Ultimately, getting a point at UNOH is a difficult thing for any team to do, so we're pleased with it. Nice to have a week to recover and recharge before we host Cornerstone next Saturday, so already looking towards a good test in that one," Johnson finished.
The first half saw the host Racers hold most of the control, putting up seven shots to Lourdes' one, where Brock earned three of his six saves.
The senior kept his rhythm in the second 45 minutes of play, chalking three more saves, while the Gray Wolves' offense produced seven shots in the stanza.
Match Notes:
