GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University men's wrestling team, ranked No. 21 nationally ahead of the meet, came up short in a hard-fought Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference dual against No. 23 Cornerstone University, falling 32-21 on Wednesday evening in Grand Rapids, Mich.
After early forfeits in the lower weight classes, the Gray Wolves battled back with standout performances. Cole McKinley secured Lourdes' first victory with a pin at 141 pounds, finishing his match in 3:36. Will Speight delivered a dominant technical fall at 184 pounds, earning a 21-6 win in just 2:33. Carter Kroll followed with an impressive major decision at 197 pounds, winning 11-0, and Ty Cobb closed out the night with a forfeit victory at heavyweight.
Despite their efforts, the early deficit proved too large to overcome. Cornerstone claimed key wins at 125, 133, 149, 157, and 165 pounds, including two technical falls and a major decision.
