SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University men's wrestling team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, Jan. 18, earning a 38-18 victory over Cleary University at the Franciscan Center Gymnasium in Sylvania, Ohio. The Gray Wolves capitalized on forfeited weights and dominant individual efforts to secure the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference dual win.
"This was a great dual meet win for us," said head coach Dock Kelly III. "I'm so proud of the way that our guys bounced back and performed".
Isaac Green set the tone for Lourdes at 133 pounds with a hard-fought 14-8 decision over Mariano Lopez, earning the team's first points of the day. Dru Wilson and Ayden Wilson each benefited from forfeits at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively, adding to the Gray Wolves' lead.
At 149 pounds, Cole McKinley electrified the crowd with a pinfall victory over Ryan Weaver, finishing the bout at 4:46. Will Speight showcased his technical skill at 184 pounds, defeating Lenton Patrick via technical fall (19-4) in just over three minutes. Heavyweight Ty Cobb closed out the match in dominant fashion, pinning Eathan Westfall in 1:25 during the opening period at 285 pounds.
Cleary managed to score points with a pin by Jack Gruno at 157 pounds and forfeits at 125 and 165 pounds, but the Gray Wolves' depth and standout individual performances sealed the decisive victory.
"We now must shift our focus to the most important in season tournament on next week, the Missouri Valley Invitational," coach continued. "I'm excited because I know that Coach Piszker will have our guys ready to compete," he exclaimed.

The Gray Wolves will travel to Marshall, Mo., to compete in the Missouri Valley Invitational, hosted by Missouri Valley College. Action begins on Friday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. and continues on Saturday, Jan. 25, starting at 11 a.m.
