DEARBORN, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- Shaunn Monroe's 25-point performance highlighted by surpassing the 1,000-career point milestone propelled the Lourdes University men's basketball team to an 88-71 road victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday evening.
Monroe, entering the game just nine points shy of the milestone, reached the mark in the first half, helping the Gray Wolves establish a commanding 44-25 halftime lead. His consistent scoring and perfect 8-for-8 mark at the free-throw line capped a stellar outing in just his second season donning the Gray Wolf uniform.
Derek Fairley provided a spark off the bench, tallying 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting while adding seven rebounds and two assists. Adonus Abrams also contributed a strong effort off the bench with 12 points, hitting four free throws in critical moments of the second half.
Lourdes showcased dominance in the paint, outscoring the Wolverines 42-26 in that category, while forcing 16 turnovers, converting them into 28 points. The Gray Wolves also outpaced UM-Dearborn in fast-break points, 21-9.
Lourdes improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the WHAC, remaining firmly in the race for the top spot in the standings.
