SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) --Â The Lourdes University men's basketball team defended its home court for the ninth time this season, remaining unbeaten at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center with a 68-63 victory over Lawrence Tech University on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at 63 apiece and just 10 seconds remaining, Shaunn Monroe sank a crucial three-pointer to give Lourdes the lead. On the ensuing possession, Derek Fairley iced the game with two clutch free throws with six seconds on the clock, solidifying the win and improving the Gray Wolves to 9-0 on their home court.
Monroe led all scorers with 26 points, hitting four three-pointers and grabbing five rebounds. Fairley contributed seven points, including his decisive free throws, while Kendall Perkins added 10 points and six boards. Adonus Abrams provided a spark off the bench, tallying 10 points.
The contest was tightly contested throughout, featuring six ties and three lead changes. Lourdes' defense played a key role, forcing 14 turnovers and recording eight steals. Despite a strong showing from Lawrence Tech's Jimmy Salamone, who scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, the Blue Devils couldn't match the Gray Wolves' late-game execution.
Lourdes improves to 15-5 overall and 9-3 in WHAC play, solidifying their position in the conference standings.
