MIDWAY, Ky. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's basketball team rallied to a strong second-half performance to defeat Midway University 76-64 on Monday afternoon in a non-conference road matchup at Marshall Gymnasium. The Gray Wolves improved to 9-6 on the season with the victory.
Lourdes built an early lead behind solid shooting from Tamyah Worthy, Grace Ryan, and Emma Pedroza. Worthy had an efficient 6-for-8 from the floor, adding 3-6 free throws to finish with a team-high 15 points. Ryan also chipped in 15 points, going a perfect 9-for-10 from the free throw line, while Pedroza contributed another 15 points with 6-for-14 shooting and 3 rebounds. Nadeen Jemaa made key contributions as well, hitting 4-of-7 three-pointers for 13 points.
The Gray Wolves led 19-10 at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 37-32 at the halftime break. Midway rallied in the third quarter with a solid 19-point effort, cutting the Lourdes lead to just 50-51 with one period remaining. However, Lourdes' strong final push in the fourth quarter, combined with a relentless defensive effort, ultimately sealed the win. The Gray Wolves shot 50% in the final period, including a crucial 11-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Lourdes dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint, and capitalized on Midway's turnovers to score 21 points off mistakes. The Gray Wolves also excelled in fast-break points, outpacing Midway 16-0 in that category.
The win gives Lourdes a momentum boost heading into the New Year, with the team continuing to improve its consistency on both ends of the floor.
