GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- Lourdes University women's basketball faced a tough challenge on December 28, falling to Georgetown University, 79-45, in non-conference action at the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The Gray Wolves struggled early, trailing by double digits at the half, as Georgetown's offensive pressure proved to be too much to overcome.
After a slow start in the opening two quarters, Lourdes found themselves down 34-13 at halftime. The Gray Wolves shot just 27.7% from the field and struggled from three-point range, finishing 4-of-18 beyond the arc. Despite the deficit, Lourdes mounted a stronger effort in the third quarter, where they outscored the hosts 24-23, largely fueled by Grace Ryan's team-high 14 points.
Ryan led the team in scoring, hitting 5-of-12 from the field and going perfect from the free-throw line (4-4), also contributing 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Emma Pedroza added 7 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes of play.
The fourth quarter saw Georgetown pull away once again, as they capitalized on Lourdes' continued shooting struggles to secure the victory. The Gray Wolves could not find a rhythm offensively, finishing with just 45 total points. Georgetown, on the other hand, shot 79.3% from the charity stripe, adding to their 53.3% shooting from the floor.
