Lourdes University men's soccer used a dominant second half to secure a 4-2 road win at Cleary Wednesday night at Lake Trust Stadium, earning its third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season.
The Gray Wolves struck first in the 15th minute when
Tyson Woodring (Toledo, Ohio) scored unassisted for a 1-0 lead. Cleary answered just before halftime through Callum Johnson, and the Cougars carried momentum into the second half, taking a 2-1 advantage in the 47th minute on Atario Brown's finish.
Lourdes responded quickly.
Nawfal Hassani (Toledo, Ohio) equalized in the 59th minute off a combination from
Breno Queiroz (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and
Nikola Babic (Toronto, Canada). Less than 10 minutes later,
Martin Coronel (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) converted from the penalty spot to restore the lead at 3-2.
The Gray Wolves added insurance in the 86th minute when
Breno Queiroz finished a feed from
Jack Pelton (Toledo, Ohio) to close out the 4-2 result.
Lourdes outshot Cleary 19-8, putting 10 attempts on target and earning a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Yianni Kanellopoulos (Toledo, Ohio) made one save to pick up the victory.
With the win, Lourdes improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the WHAC, while Cleary fell to 8-3 (2-2 WHAC).
The Gray Wolves return home on Saturday, Oct. 11, hosting Cornerstone University in another WHAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
