Fairley’s Hot Hand Leads Lourdes Past Shawnee State to Stay Perfect

Gray Wolves shoot over 54 percent from the floor as balanced attack fuels 81-67 home victory.

SYLVANIA, Ohio — Lourdes University men's basketball continued its unbeaten start to the season Saturday afternoon, riding a balanced offensive performance to an 81-67 victory over Shawnee State University at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The Gray Wolves (4-0) shot a season-best 54.2 percent from the floor and 60 percent in the second half, with five players scoring in double figures. Sophomore guard Derek Fairley (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran West) paced the attack with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, adding three assists and two steals.

Senior Adonus Abrams (Columbus, Ohio/Harvest Prep) continued his strong early-season form with 13 points and six assists, while J'Siah Jefferson (Rockford, Ill./Toledo Start) filled the stat sheet with 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Charlie Wood (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) provided 11 points and six rebounds inside, and Stephen Coleman (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) added 10 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

Lourdes led 39-24 at halftime after limiting the Bears (2-3) to just 31 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. Shawnee State battled back to within single digits early in the second half, but Fairley's pair of three-pointers and a 10-2 Lourdes run pushed the lead back to 20 with under 10 minutes to play.

The Gray Wolves controlled the paint throughout, outscoring Shawnee State 42-30 inside and holding a 43-44 rebounding margin despite facing a physical frontcourt. Lourdes also assisted on 11 of 32 field goals and outshot the Bears 33 percent to 15 percent from beyond the arc.

El Sieger led Shawnee State with 16 points, while Daniel Rosenber recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Lourdes (4-0) will look to extend its winning streak when it returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 19, to face Miami-Middletown in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Recreation Center.
