LIVONIA, Mich. – Senior
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio / Napoleon HS) scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Lourdes University women's basketball opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a 68–45 road victory over Madonna University on Wednesday evening.
The Gray Wolves (4–0, 1–0 WHAC) outscored the Crusaders 43–21 in the second half after trailing by one midway through the second quarter. Lourdes shot 53.8% in the third quarter and forced 21 Madonna turnovers, turning them into 20 points.
Pedroza led all scorers, going 9-of-21 from the field, 4-of-9 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 at the line, while adding four steals and two assists. Junior
Kaylona Butler (Toledo, Ohio / Toledo Christian HS) added 15 points and seven rebounds, and senior
Tamyah Worthy (Toledo, Ohio / Start HS) stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, five steals, and a block.
Camryn Ivy (Woodmore, Ohio / Woodmore HS) contributed nine points and six rebounds, while
Oliwia Dyja (Sosnowiec, Poland) tallied five points, four rebounds, and three assists. Lourdes held Madonna to just 31.1% shooting from the field and 0-for-12 from beyond the arc, limiting the Crusaders (2–3, 0–1 WHAC) to 10 points or fewer in three of four quarters.
Madonna was led by Terre'ya Moore's 13 points and Faith Jungwirth's 10 points and six rebounds.
The Gray Wolves return home Saturday, November 22, to host Cornerstone University at 1 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
