GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Lourdes University men's basketball followed up Friday's season-opening win with another convincing performance on Saturday, defeating Wright State–Lake Campus 99-78 to close out play at the Grand Rapids Classic.
The Gray Wolves (2-0) shot a blistering 55.9 percent from the field and assisted on 28 of their 38 made baskets, showcasing a balanced and unselfish offensive attack.
Sophomore guard
Derek Fairley (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran West) led the way again with 23 points, six assists, and four rebounds while shooting 9-of-14 from the floor. Senior guard
Joe Francis (Adrian, Mich.) provided a spark off the bench with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including two dunks and a pair of three-pointers.
Dasan Doucet (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) was nearly perfect from the floor, scoring 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while
Adonus Abrams (Columbus, Ohio/Harvest Prep) added eight points, four steals, and two assists. Senior forward
Ben Morrison (Oregon, Ohio) anchored the defense and glass with a team-high 10 rebounds and three assists.
Lourdes exploded for a 51-28 halftime lead, fueled by a 19-point first half from Fairley and back-to-back three-pointers from Francis. The Gray Wolves' lead stretched to as many as 36 points early in the second half before the Cougars trimmed the margin late.
As a team, Lourdes dominated points in the paint (50-40) and outscored Wright State–Lake 20-15 off turnovers. The Gray Wolves also got 45 points from their bench.
The Gray Wolves will travel to Wilberforce University (Ohio) on Wednesday for their first road contest of the year.
