KOKOMO, Ind. – Behind a stellar performance from
Kaylona Butler, Lourdes University women's basketball stayed unbeaten Saturday afternoon, defeating Indiana University Kokomo 84-70 at the Student Activities & Events Center.
Butler (Toledo, Ohio) poured in 27 points, knocking down five three-pointers and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the line, to lead the Gray Wolves (2-0). Senior
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio) followed with 22 points, six rebounds, and a steal, while
Camryn Ivy (Woodmore, Ohio) added an efficient 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Lourdes shot a season-high 51.8% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc, while holding the Cougars (1-2) to just 39.3% shooting and forcing 18 turnovers.
Senior
Tamyah Worthy (Toledo, Ohio) filled the stat sheet with eight assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two points, controlling the tempo on both ends.
Oliwia Dyja (Sosnowiec, Poland) contributed seven points and five rebounds, while NaKiya Sigman (Lima, Ohio) added four assists and four rebounds off the bench.
Lourdes opened the game with back-to-back triples from Butler and built a 16-10 lead after one quarter. The Gray Wolves extended their advantage to 41-29 at halftime and never trailed the rest of the way, leading by as many as 18 in the fourth.
IU Kokomo was paced by Mackenzie York's 17 points, while Moriah Crawford added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Gray Wolves will return home next Saturday, November 15, to face East-West University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
