SYLVANIA, Ohio — Lourdes women's basketball used a massive offensive surge and a career performance from junior
Kaylona Butler to remain unbeaten, defeating Michigan-Dearborn 85–66 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves improved to 9–0 overall and 6–0 in WHAC play with the victory.
Butler (Toledo, Ohio / Toledo Christian HS) was unstoppable, pouring in 32 points on 10-of-24 shooting while hitting four three-pointers and going 8-for-9 at the free-throw line. She added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, fueling a Lourdes offense that posted 29 points in the third quarter to blow open what had been a tight contest.
Senior
Oliwia Dyja (Sosnowiec, Poland) delivered her best all-around effort of the season with 12 points and 8 rebounds, including a pair of threes and a perfect 4-for-5 at the line.
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio) added 13 points, while
Tamyah Worthy (Toledo, Ohio / Start HS) stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Lourdes (8–0) led 40–28 at the half, but the Wolverines heated up early in the third quarter to close within single digits. The Gray Wolves responded immediately, ripping off a 21–7 run powered by Butler, Pedroza, and Dyja to stretch the lead to 20. Lourdes' largest advantage reached 35 points late in the fourth.
Michigan-Dearborn was led by Bailey Stimac, who scored 22 points and hit five threes, while Marissa Thomas added 17. But the Wolverines committed 24 turnovers, which Lourdes converted into 26 points, and were outscored 32–18 in the paint.
As a team, Lourdes shot 38.5% from the field, made eight threes, and went 17-for-21 (81%) at the line. The Gray Wolves also won the rebounding battle 43–44, including 17 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points.
Lourdes looks to continue its unbeaten start on Saturday, December 13, when the Gray Wolves host Aquinas in another pivotal WHAC matchup.
