SYLVANIA, Ohio – It was a historic game for Lourdes women's basketball on Friday afternoon in the Ebeid Rec Center as the Gray Wolves (10-1) (6-1 in WHAC) cruised to a 117-45 win over the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys (0-12) (0-1 in RSC).
Lourdes is off to their best start ever and they continued to break individual and team records on Friday.
Senior guard
Emma Pedroza collected an 18-point, 10-assist, 14-rebound triple-double. The 10 assists and 14 rebounds are both new career-highs for her. Pedroza spoke postgame about her historic performance and the record-breaking nature of this year's team.
"Just being with my teammates and the people around me, it's an amazing group of girls," said Pedroza. "I think breaking records, not individually, but as a team, is something we've been doing for these last couple of years. I think it's the culture and the community around me that allowed this game to happen for me. Assists come from everyone else making baskets. I'm just really proud to be a part of the team."
One of Pedroza's teammates making a whole lot of baskets was junior guard
Kaylona Butler, who scored 39 points, the second-most points ever scored by a Lourdes women's basketball player in a game.
As a team, 117 points is the second most points scored in a game in the program's 15-year existence.
The Gray Wolves led the game wire-to-wire, holding a double-digit lead for 38 out of the 40 minutes played. Five Gray Wolves scored double-digits in the game, including senior guard
Oliwia Dyja with 12, senior forward
Camryn Ivy with 17, and senior guard
Karsyn Edwards with 13 points off the bench. Dyja and Ivy also each nearly had double-doubles in the contest, posting seven rebounds a piece.
Senior guard duo
Carly Maple and
Ray Armstrong produced five points each off the bench to contribute to the Gray Wolves' 23 bench points in the contest, a 21 point improvement from Wednesday's loss to Cleary.
Ashley Zawisza helped facilitate the bench production with four assists and four rebounds in 20 minutes played, all of which are career highs for the junior guard out of local high school Saint Ursula Academy.
The Pomeroys were led in scoring by senior guard Abigail Parker with 14 points. She also had a block and two three-pointers.
Overall, Lourdes held the advantage in every statistical category in the matchup. Lourdes led field goal percentage 56.6% to 28.8%, three-point percentage, 44.4% to 22.2%, rebounds, 53 to 28, turnovers forced, 21 to 8, and steals, 13 to 3.
