GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University men's wrestling team had a strong showing at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, with William Speight and Carter Kroll capturing individual titles while four other Gray Wolves secured top-three finishes at the event hosted by Cornerstone University.
Speight (184 lbs.) dominated his bracket, winning both of his matches via technical fall, including a 20-5 victory over Marian's Jordan Fulks in the championship bout. Kroll (197 lbs.) was equally impressive, pinning both of his opponents on his way to the title, including a fall at 6:30 in the finals over Marian's Clay Guenin.
At 141 pounds, Cole McKinley battled his way to a runner-up finish, winning by fall and technical fall before dropping a close 14-10 decision in the title match. Dru Wilson also impressed at 141, wrestling back to third place with a string of victories, including a pin and a pair of decision wins.
Ayden Wilson (174 lbs.) added a third-place finish after securing two falls and a 10-8 decision in his placement match. Heavyweight Ty Cobb rounded out Lourdes' top finishers, placing fifth.
Lourdes now turns its attention to preparing for the NAIA National Championships, with individual qualifiers set to be announced in the coming weeks.
