Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Spring Arbor

The Gray Wolves Fell in both road games, 4-3, 3-1

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University baseball team dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader against Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, with the Cougars taking the opener 4-3 on a walk-off single before securing a 3-1 victory in game two.

Game 1: Spring Arbor 4, Lourdes 3

The Gray Wolves took control early, striking for three runs in the third inning. Nick DiGennaro led off the frame with a solo home run to right field, putting Lourdes on the board. Later in the inning, Alex Dupree doubled to score Skylar Mays, and Joel Suraganan followed with an RBI groundout to give Lourdes a 3-1 lead.

Spring Arbor chipped away, adding a run in the fifth before tying the game in the sixth. Ryan Gonzalez doubled to bring in Joey Tessmer, while Aiden Brunin drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the tying run.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars completed the comeback when Jacob Zeeb delivered a walk-off single to left, scoring Tessmer.

J. Murphy (1-0) earned the win in relief for Spring Arbor, while Riley McKinnon (0-1) took the loss after allowing the deciding run in the seventh.

Game 2: Spring Arbor 3, Lourdes 1

Lourdes struck first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning when A.J. Brinson singled home Andrew Arntson. However, Spring Arbor responded in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single from Ryan Gonzalez to even the score.

The Cougars took the lead for good in the fourth when Connor Dee drove in Gonzalez on a sacrifice fly. Spring Arbor added an insurance run in the sixth when Jake Spedoske laid down a squeeze bunt to score Aiden Brunin, making it 3-1.

Lourdes struggled to break through offensively, mustering just five hits against Spring Arbor's pitching duo. Trammell Lindstrom(2-1) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing one run while striking out seven to earn the win. Colin Snyder recorded a four-out save, fanning four of the five batters he faced.

For the Gray Wolves, Caleb Loboschefski (0-1) took the hard-luck loss despite a strong complete-game effort, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five.

Lourdes University will face Spring Arbor once again on March 4th, making up a previously postponed game. First pitch is set for 1 pm in Spring Arbor, Mich.
