Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Brescia

OWENSBORO, Ky. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University baseball team took the field for a doubleheader against the Bearcats of Brescia University on Tuesday afternoon but came up short in both contests, falling 7-4 in game one and 6-2 in game two at Kamuf Park.

Game One: Brescia 7, Lourdes 4

Lourdes (0-8) started strong in the opener, jumping out to an early lead with a run in the first and adding to the advantage in the second. Andrew Arntson doubled down the left field line to drive in Joel Suraganan in the first inning, and in the second, Suraganan's groundout brought home Landon Brown to make it 2-0.

After Brescia (7-7) tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second, Lourdes responded in the third when Arntson launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Caleb Edwards-Dugan and giving the Gray Wolves a 4-2 lead.

However, Brescia capitalized on Lourdes miscues in the sixth inning, plating five runs, including a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a throwing error. The Bearcats held on from there as B. Franey (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings. Jacob Emerson (0-1) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over five innings.

Arntson finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and a home run, while A.J. Brinson added two hits. Brescia's offense was led by G. Huebner, who drove in two runs, and J. Foti, who doubled in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Game Two: Brescia 6, Lourdes 2

The Gray Wolves (0-9) once again battled but could not overcome a mid-game surge by Brescia (8-7). The Bearcats struck first with a run in the second inning and doubled their lead in the third before Lourdes got on the board in the fourth. Will Brose delivered an RBI single to bring home Alex Dupree, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Lourdes tied the game in the fifth when Dupree reached on an error, allowing Suraganan to score an unearned run. However, Brescia quickly regained control in the bottom half of the inning. A. Logvinov reached on an error that led to a run, and B. Gamble followed with a two-run homer to left field, putting the Bearcats up 5-2. An RBI groundout in the sixth extended their lead to 6-2.

C. Pinson (2-1) earned the win for Brescia, allowing just two runs (one earned) over six innings while striking out five. Lourdes' Noah Maniaci (0-1) suffered the loss despite allowing just three earned runs over five innings.

Lourdes managed five hits in the game, led by Suraganan, Edwards-Dugan, Dupree, Arntson, and Brose.
