Adrian, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University baseball team fell to Siena Heights University in both games of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves (8-24) were defeated 3-1 in game one and 12-3 in game two.
Game One: Siena Heights 3, Lourdes 1
Lourdes took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when
Joel Suraganan hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring
Caleb Edwards-Dugan. However, Siena Heights responded in the bottom of the third with a three-run rally. The home team delivered a two-RBI single to left field, followed with a run-scoring single to right, giving the Saints a 3-1 lead.
That would be all the offense Siena Heights would need, as their starter, C. Molnar, went the distance for the win. Molnar (5-1) allowed just one earned run on five hits, striking out six and walking four over seven strong innings of work.
Lourdes struggled to generate any further offense as Molnar kept the Gray Wolves off balance throughout the game. Landen Vance pitched well for Lourdes, going six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, with five strikeouts and four walks. Despite his solid outing, Vance (2-7) took the loss.
Game Two: Siena Heights 12, Lourdes 3
The team dropped a 12-3 decision to the Saints in the second game of their doubleheader. Despite a pair of home runs and a strong effort from the offense, the Gray Wolves struggled to keep up with Siena Heights, who capitalized on a big scoring innings.
Siena Heights opened the scoring in the second inning with a pair of runs to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Lourdes responded in the third inning, as A.J. Brinson singled to center, driving in Skylar Mays to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Saints answered with a dominant third inning, scoring three runs off two doubles to push the lead to 5-1. Siena Heights then broke the game open in the fourth with a three-run homer, giving Siena Heights an 8-1 lead.
Lourdes battled back in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Skylar Mays, but it wasn't enough to stem the tide as Siena Heights added four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to complete the 12-3 victory. Jacob Emerson (1-6) took the loss for the Gray Wolves, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Kaeden Granger pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits.
